The Luxembourg Christmas Market is unique as it is divided in to many areas around the city. If you want to plan the Luxembourg Christmas Market for your next trip, use these tips to make the most of your visit.
Overview
Our number one mistake was not spending an entire day here. If you’re going, plan for the day. The market is in four locations (plus a new kid area in 2023). The first in in the Place D’Armes, the second is in the Place de la Constitution, the third is in the Place de Paris, the fourth is at the Kinnekswiss (read here for more details on this vague address lol) and the kid’s area is in the Place Guillame II.
Parking
Parking is hopefully improved from our visit and there are many parking lots through the city as well as trams and buses. Payment is usually around 3 euros an hour. I recommend parking at one parking lot and walking to each area. We parked by the Pirate park and then walked to the Place d’Armes and the Place de la Constitution.
Shopping
Buying with cash versus card depends on the vendor. Some will only take one or the other and some have minimums on credit card purchases (if you want to use a card). There aren’t loads of atms in plain sight so bring cash with you. More and more we see vendors also taking tap and pay or Venmo.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms were tricky for us to find. I know they exist, especially around the Place de la Constitution. If you need a restroom you’re likely paying for it or needing to be a customer to use a restroom for free.
Conclusion
It is worth stopping at as many locations because the vendors are so varied at each spot. Hands down the Luxembourg market has the most variety in vendors and food from all of the markets we visited. The Kniddelen is a Luxembourgish dish that is a must try- dumplings in cream topped with bacon, it’s amazing!
