Whether you are gifting something for your family who travel consistently or are just travelling for the holidays, it’s good to know what to give to make the most of your budget and their needs. This list of gift ideas for families will help yours get the most out of their trip.
Gas Cards
Nope, no shame in just giving a gas card. I have been the happy recipient of gas cards many times and I’m telling you it is always appreciated. If they’re an electric car driver, they can still use these at the station to buy drinks, snacks, etc. This also gives you, the gifter, to choose an amount that meets your budget or make this part of a gift (like a gas card + coffee cup).
Points & Rewards
Did you know that in many cases you can gift your travel points? Think airlines, hotels, and more! Many hotel chains also have bonus point buying around the holidays–say you usually earn 1 point per dollar spent, that equates to $100 for 100 points; however sometimes you can buy points for less, 100 points may cost $75 on a sale/special. You can then gift those points to your family so they can use them for their travels.
Travel Gear
If it is something most people use in travel, grab it for your family. Ask first, but consider things like luggage, packing cubes, stainless steel cups or water bottles, reusable baggies or totes, bento boxes (for kids and adults), etc. Having a good, sturdy piece of gear means it will last longer and have a lot of versatility in travel. We use stainless steel cups daily, bento boxes on most outings, packing cubes for longer trips, and reusable baggies on most park days. We have compiled our favorite travel gear here on our Amazon storefront if you need some ideas. The nice thing about choosing gear is that it feels more personable and also includes a wide price range to fit your needs.
Admission Tickets
Another awesome gift is covering admission prices for wherever the destination is. This can be theme parks, attractions, museums, experiences, and more. I’ve use Groupon to gift zoo passes and theme park admission or you can go directly to a site like Disney, and buy the tickets then print them for your family. This will definitely be a great surprise and encourage your family to enjoy their trip with this sort of “extra” taken care of.
Cash/Prepaid Cards
This is really helpful for things like meals en route, souvenirs, ticket fare, admissions prices, lodging…really just any travel need. Not everyone likes handing out cash, and I understand that, try a preloaded Visa card like this one to make it seem a little more special but cover the same intent. Honestly, my in-laws give us a check each year and it almost entirely goes to a travel experience (as we aren’t huge gift givers, more on that later).
